Gas Meter

We had been thinking about getting a natural gas line run to the house for a while, and after finding out that it would be free to do it, we started thinking more seriously about it. Then with the price of heating oil rising quickly and costing us a lot to heat the house, we decided it would be worth the effort. Our oil furnace is at least 40 years old, and pretty much at the end of its life anyway. So we decided we'd get the gas line installed and use it for the furnace, water heater, dryer and stove.

It was actually pretty impressive to see how they ran the gas line. The main gas line was on the other side of the street. They dug a hole on each side of the street, then they used a small air powered device that just bored a hole under the street for the new pipe. Then they did the same thing to get it from there to the house.

The kid across the street was really interested in the backhoe.

The new gas meter. Unfortunately since it is right next to the driveway, they had to install two posts to protect the meter. At least they didn't paint them yellow...
